Our Story

From a school project to a food company. 

Avocado Desserts was born in 2015 in the food labs of McGill.

Our mission: Create desserts with fresh and natural ingredients that correspond to our nutritional needs.

Our challenge: Make delicious desserts with avocados while preventing the fruit's oxydation.

Result: Our exciting and innovative tiramisu won the IFT "New Food Development in North America" competition. Feeling inspired, our three co-founders, Chlo√©, Enrico & Liam, launched Avocado Desserts 2016.

Over the past year, we sold desserts through our catering service for food, innovation and health events, but we are now looking to make our products more accessible for you, our beloved customers.

Nutritional Benefits

Why avocados? 

When we formulated our recipes, we were looking to replace unhealthy fatty ingredients like butter or heavy cream by an ingredient that had a similar texture as well as providing us with nutrients crucial to our health. The solution? Avocados, earth butter. 

Avocados are the fruits with the highest protein content. While the protein content remains low, avocado actually satiates much faster than other foods. Their fat content is higher than any other fruit, but don't worry, it's the good kind of fat - monounsaturated fatty acids, also found in olive oil. This type of fat is central to the Mediterranean diet, one of the healthiest in the world.

Lastly, avocados are a good source of fiber, which helps regulate blood sugar levels and keeps your energy high even after consumption.


Our Other Ingredients

Quality & Fresh. 

Avocado is the star ingredient of our products, but that doesn't mean the other ingredients are less important. 

All of our recipes are made with ingredients designed to offer the right balance of taste and nutrition. Our sweeteners are all natural and have a lower glycemic index than regular sugars.

In addition, our goal is to use sustainably sourced ingredients. For instance, our dark chocolate from Callebaut is sourced from West African farms, where programs have been launched to increase productivity and community engagement. We are also actively looking to procure fair trade avocados.

As for the color, we use chlorophyll - the green pigment in plants which also happens to be a natural antioxidant. It protects our desserts, but it also protects you.
